Job tasks and responsibilities
Reporting into the Head of Planning & Insights, this Merchandise Planner will be responsible for managing and commercial Planning metrics, primarily sales, margin & stock.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the Head of Planning & Insights in driving the brand's strategy and delivering budgeted KPI's, by ensuring sales and gross profit are both maximised through efficient stock optimisation.
Budgets & Monthly Re-forecasts
Set seasonal budgets at Brand/Week level
Re-forecast monthly with commentary on identified opportunity and/or risk
Include all key metrics for sales, margin and stock
Ensure budgets & re-forecasts are supported by all key stakeholders (CEO, Buying)
Analysis & Reporting
Attend & contribute in Weekly Trade Meeting
Identify opportunities and risks, make recommendations to maximize or mitigate
Report on buying margin and markdowns to ensure GP% is achieved
Complete post seasonal reviews in line with critical path
Range & Option Planning
Build a balanced option plan to deliver Brand Strategy
Quantify orders within agreed OTB (including sizing analysis)
Monitor aged inventory position to keep within business parameters
Plan permanent and promotional markdowns to achieve Sales & Gross Profit budgets
Prepare informed markdowns with visibility on Gross Profit impact
Review markdown with teams, reflect in Merchandise Plans & monitor performance closely
Skills and experience
The skills and experience required to be successful in securing the role of Merchandise Planner are:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a Retail Planning roles
- Experience with planning software preferred
- Tertiary qualification with an emphasis in Retail, Business, or Finance is an advantage
- Ability to communicate and influence at all levels in the business; proven teamwork and collaboration
- Good organisational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and self manage
- Aptitude for numbers and an outstanding attention to detail
- Ability to understand and use systems
- Advanced Excel skills
